The Need for Spaceships

Jeff Van Booven

My soul mate's on a planet
--in a galaxy far away.
----I know this because she
------sent me a message
--------the other day

She said not to worry
--and not to wait,
----she couldn't make it
------to our first date.

I was left with her picture;
--the memory
----of a girl
------with whom I'd never be.

Should I burn it,
--move on,
----leave her behind
------or should I go for that girl in the blue dress
--------wearing pearls with a smile,
----------and keep alive the dream that I'm not sure I desire?

I wish this were a movie;
--oh that I could smile;
----wish I had a spaceship that
------allowed me to believe
--------that anything was true;
----------that the dress was red instead of blue.
