Nothing Exceptional
Jeff Van Booven
Spandex isn't quite my style,
I accept the lack of
radioactive spiders
and though I try,
I can't fly,
only stare
at a dark cloud sky.
I want to be the hero,
the man who saves the day.
I want to ask some punk
if he feels lucky;
to be the hero of the old west
like John Wayne.
Though I dream,
it won't come out alright.
I'll never save
the day, or get the girl
in the end.
It really is all just pretend.
So I go about my way,
another man, the same,
plain, dejected, rejected,
one more of many walking
in the rain.
