The Global Association for the Advancement of Undead People was founded in order to protect the dwindling rights of this oppressed minority worldwide. The undead have been part of a multi-pronged attack by the media, government, and religious organizations. While other minorities gained more rights the undead have slowly seen theirs taken away. The undead used to be a valued voting block in American politics. Today they aren't even given the right to vote. Even when those who can vote elect an undead candidate the government steps in and demands somebody else be placed in the position. Thus, it is the priority of GAAUP to get Congress to Pass the Undead Rights Voting Amendment and make it a constitutional right of the undead to vote.
Secondly, GAAUP was established to combat the negative stereotypes that continue to be promoted through Hollywood and the media. The undead are not just mindless killing machines that feast on brains. They are adept and well-adjusted citizens. In fact, your neighbor could be undead and you may have never noticed. The undead are, in fact, incredible gardeners; and, while most people would have you believe that they feast upon brains, their diet consists mostly of watermelon and various other fruits and vegetables.
Remember, zombies were people too.
